Sunday, May 18, 2008 The incident of the 'argument' in the Parlimen made headlines quite sometime ago. I only roughly knew about it by glancing off the first page of the newspaper. But due to the business of day to day life, i didn't take the leisure to pursue this news. However, during some 'free periods' in class, a few of my classmates discussed about this incident and wanted to show the clip. All thanks to the incredibly slow connection in college, we never managed to watch it in class. Haha... So i managed to watch it online one fine day on YouTube. But hey, this post ain't about the clip, for now, what strike me was the comments about it. Actually, only half of it were commenting about the behaviour of the MPs and the incident, another half were arguments between citizens of Malaysia. As one of the large issue on the clip was whether Malaysia is an Islamic state or not, there were plenty of debates about the origins of people in our country. And for the first time ever (okay, maybe not) i actually saw open racism comments. Some were citing about Malays being the bumiputras of the country and asking the chinese to go back to the country. And people were counter-arguing by asking them to refer to the sejarah text book about Palembang coming from Indon. Then a cross-counter one saying that part only involves a small part as most Malays were the oborigins. And of course, many were pointing fingers at each other, regardless of race. So this is us huh? I only gave it much thought later when i read the newspaper about May13 and then it strikes me: What is the point of this kind of debates? Admittedly, when i read the comments, opinions were form at the back of my mind on who was right and who was wrong. Passion were inflammed and i even thought of commenting myself, trying to counterback. Thanks goodness, I wisely did not. Upon reflecting it, I felt i was probably blinded and pretty close-minded at that time. Because debating on how much of Malaysia is yours as it is to me will brings us nowhere. Does it even matter anymore? In this modern era, migrating is so common and people move around and live all around the world. But then, we must not forget about other factors such as citizenship, family matters, legal stuff etc... However, I still think that such debate will never end or result in anything and I felt foolish when i remember that i consider involving myself. Judging plus making opinions based on what I think only and my singular perception seems silly indeed. What do I know anyway? Perhaps, it can be said I might not be matured enough to understand and judge much about the politics of my country. Anyway, more hatred and revengeful comments does not solve anything, we should always aim for a win-win situation. You happy, I happy. coming to that, i must mention there were some peacable comments, so we ain't too bad afterall huh? I shall try my best for now to listen and not judge yet. I believe it's important for us youngsters to take notice in political happening in our country so when we have the chance to vote, we will make the right choice based in what we believe. We should practise our rights as a Malaysian and your participation can make a change. Hopefully, as i grow older, I will able to understand things more and view it with a more open mind. Gah, enough of this! Now you know why i always complain about growing up! ![]() -when ducks talks to cat- ~pic unrelated to post Ps: Actually i wrote this sometime ago, only managed to post it today. ~blogged at 10:32 PM~
